Cup Final

So it's the Fed Cup Final and about time I went over my previous posts where I made a few predictions for the Fed Cup.

My main contenders were (listed in no particular order):

hotten tottspur
totteringham hotspur
Bakken Fotball Klubb
Tottenham Titans
Midnattsol
CANADIAN SPURS
Sandefjord Hotspur

CANADIAN SPURS did not make it past the knockout phase as dwayne-mooney performed a minor miracle. Otherwise I was able to get most of the group winners and also my main picks made it through to the semi-finals.

Now that we're down to the final itself? I fancy Midnattsol to win the title and it looks like they have saved their first team ready for the final.

Knockout Phase

Probably the biggest shock from the group phase was dwayne-mooney managing to win the group on goal difference after the final set of games. dwayne-mooney seemed intent on throwing his games by handing out walkovers for booking the wrong friendly or forgetting to set a team. It seemed a minor miracle that dwayne-mooney stole the top spot by a single goal.

Now it seems dwayne-mooney has thrown his first team into Fed Cup action and gave Sandefjord Hotspura 5-1 thrashing to book their place in the next round.

Next up we have Bakken Fotball Klubb who dumped Chimp United out 5-2 away from home. I would not put Bakken at the top of my favourites list but a kind draw could see them progress further.

2916 spectators arrived at white hart pain and saw totteringham hotspur thump Hattarna FC 4 - 1. The final score seemed a little harsh to Hattarna but again I can not quite see waynos picking up the trophy this year.

Result of the round (so far) has to be Welsh minnows Deeside Dragons sending Hunter Utd. packing for another season thanks to a fine 5-4 win with an 86th minute winner. I would imagine that the other teams would fancy a nice home draw against Deeside next round.

So at the end of this report, dwayne-mooney is the firm favourite so far although has he used up all his Fed Cup luck now?

Let's wait and see how the other matches pan out tomorrow....

Group Phase

We're fast approaching the closing stages of the group phase with several teams seemingly clinching their way onto the knockout matches.

Group 1:

A Bunch of Losers have the group sewn up unless they manage to do anything stupid (*cough* not setting a lineup).

They may also progress through the kockout phase depending on who they are drawn to face.

Group 2:

FC Nærved Bundby and Hot-Spurs are still competing the the top spot and next week they face each other in what should decide the group winner. FC Nærved Bundby would appear to be favouries although neither of these teams seem strong enough to progress much further than the first knockout stage.

Group 3:

Fylde College and Deeside Dragons remained locked at the top with Deeside beating Fylde last week in a close encounter so each team won their home match against each other. The group winner will likely be decided by goal difference. Fylde College would appear to be marginal favourites but again both teams would most likely fall at the first knockout phase unless they received an easy fixture.

Group 4:

Danish Spurs and Hattarna FC are sitting on equal points and Danish Spurs may regret playing counter-attacks against Hattarna during their match this week. I would expect Hattarna to progress through although once again they don't seem to be among the cup favourites.

Group 5:

hotten tottspur should finish at the top and should make a strong challenge through the knockout phase depending on the draw. They face a tough last group round match against FC Ebbhead but they should make it through.

Group 6:

Hunter Utd remain at the top of their group but face the crunch match away next week at WHL Glory. Hunter don't appear to be strong challengers for the overall title though.

Group 7:

totteringham hotspur should have finished this group off by now but suffered an undeserved defeat to Welsh Exiles this week. totteringham hotspur or Aksnes should progress through with totteringham hotspur appearing to be the stronger team.

Group 8:

Bakken Fotball Klubb will win the group and look a strong contender for the Fed Cup title. Much will depend on the priority they give for their league survival as they could start fielding a stronger lineup.

Group 9:

Tottenham Titans will win the group and could prove one of the stronger teams in the knockout phase.

Group 10:

TeamDel should progress through although would need a favourible draw to progress through the knockout phase.

Group 11:

There are still 3 teams fighting it out to win the group. On paper I would have expected cockney bitches to win the group easily but Lancashire Bombers and Cheese Eating Surrender Monkeys are making a fight of it. cockney bitches should progress and should be counted as a favourite for the title but again it depends on how much attention they give to their league campaign.

Group 12:

Another close group between Midnattsol and Tuuters FC although Midnattsol should make it through and have to be considered a strong contender for the overall title.

Group 13:

Yet another close finish between The Hotspurs, CANADIAN SPURS, and Basildon Spurs. A hard one to call really since dwayne-mooney seems intent on throwing the group by booking wrong friendlies or failing to set enough players. CANADIAN SPURS are most likely to make it through and are a darkhorse for the title.

Group 14:

FC 1942 United should top the group given their remaining matches but look likely to fall at the first knockout stage.

Group 15:

Chimp United are on course to win the group and should may a good stab at the knockout phase.

Group 16:

Sandefjord Hotspur should win the group unless Pilgrims can pull off a minor miracle in their final group match. Sandefjord Hotspur should be considered a contender for the title in the draw proves kind.
