HT username: Ronnie-Vimhawk

Team name: Old Craptonians.

League: VI.991.

How many seasons have you played Hattrick? This is my third.

Honours?
Won my league last year, lost the promotion qualifier.

How did you find Hattrick? Through a friend who has been playing quite a while (he’s in division IV).

How much time do you spend on average, per day, on Hattrick? Hard to say as I’m usually logged in at work all day, and look at the conferences from time to time when I get a minute. So it depends on how busy I am with work I’m paid for.

Where did your Hattrick team name come from? I used to play for the old boys team from my school that were called Old Parkonians.

Any significance for your teams strip? Vaguely similar to the red and white halves of the Old Parks.

What is the “weird” thing you do in Hattrick that really doesn’t make any sense? Introduce some role playing elements, eg selling a forward who hasn’t scored any goals in 10 matches, because he clearly doesn’t ‘fit into’ the team – ignoring the fact that it’s really all algorithms and randomisation.

What ambitions do you have in the game, how far would you dream of going? I just want this to be fun and do as well as I can at whatever level I happen to be at. I have no ambition more than that.

How did you discover the wonders of the THFC Fed? Looking to escape from the BBC Spurs message board. Assumed HT would have some Spurs related fed.

Why did you become a Spurs supporter? At age 5 or 6 living in Leytonstone, and older boy (maybe as old as 10) having found I didn’t support anyone said to me “support Spurs, they’ll never let you down”. In the first full season I went to the Lane, we were relegated.

Favourite current Spurs player? Probably Ledley.I like most of them thank goodness!

Greatest ever Spurs player? Hoddle because he was simply amazing at the time I was going regularly. The expectation that every free kick would go in. The range of passing. I even ‘discovered him’ at a time when most other supporters still thought Alfie Conn was god.

Worst ever Spurs player? As long as a player appears to be trying his best, I can forgive lack of ability. I am really upset by the way certain sections of so-called supporters are starting to find one player in the team to get on the back of. It’s claimed to be based on the performances of an individual, but the criticism now seems to be transferred onto another player once the original target has gone.

Greatest Spurs manager? Burkinshaw, if restricting this answer to teams that I have seen play.

What has been the high point and low point of the last Spurs season for you? 4th place in the league – we are still on that high. I’m sure we would have taken that at the start of the season. The cup defeats were upsetting, but not a problem in the big scheme of things.

What was the first Spurs match that you saw? (WHL and TV) My first home match was mid-season the season before we got relegated. I can remember 9 or 10 of the team, but not who we played or even the score! On TV, I vaguely remember our EUFA cup final of 1972 against Wolves.

What is the most memorable Spurs match you have seen and why? The 9-0 against Bristol Rovers was astonishing for the scoreline. Other than that, possibly the cup replay in 1995 away to Southampton. I only saw it on TV because I was away skiing at the time. I declined the après ski that night, and by half time was regretting my decision when we were 2-0 down. We eventually won 6-2. Rocket Ronnie’s finest hour.

Do you own any Spurs football shirts? What designs? I have the plain white shirt with the plain badge (late 60s I think). An understated classic.

Favourite Spurs shirt design? That one.

Do you have a job in real life? What is it? Personal Assistant to a ‘high flying’ lawyer. It’s a job not a career!

What did you do with your spare time, before HT? Computer games, mainly strategy games (not RTS ‘real time’ strategy). Was a member of the TA for more than 20 years.

Do you have a favourite Hattrick player and why? (That's an actual player and not manager) My forward Edward Ely, one of my worst players on paper and consistently named as having had a ‘terrible day’ in the match reports, has scored 16 in his past four league games (following nine goals in 42 matches before that).

What has been the highlight of the Hattrick season for you? The previously mentioned forward is (according to Alltid) joint 14th highest scorer in England as I write this. Doesn’t mean anything of course, but it’s the first time any of my players has appeared on any ‘top’ lists.

Who has been you best recent Hattrick signing and why? I’m not experienced enough to know if any of my signings are particularly good ones. All I can do at my level is try and ensure I don’t pay more than market price for anyone.

Do you have any players that don’t really play, but you keep them anyway? why? I’ll probably keep the previously mentioned forward, as he’s the only member of the original squad I was given who I still have.

If you had the chance, what one thing would you change in HT? I have several thoughts, but will wait for a bit more experience of the game before expressing them.

Everyone makes a newbie mistake when they start HT, what was yours? I tried to get young players in every position. Not the worst mistake but it made my effective starting fund even smaller than it already was.

What position do you train? Have you always trained the same position? Defending.

If you were giving advice to a new Hattrick player now, what would you say? Join the newbie conference. Most of your questions will be answered there.

Who has been your inspiration or mentor in Hattrick? I have a number of mentors that have provided invaluable and very welcome advice. One of them was recently interviewed here.

Who makes you laugh in the Hattrick world? People who take it all too seriously. I’ve had two accidents that should have killed me so I don’t take anything seriously.

Favourite joke? Something a bit surreal like:Two budgies were sat on a perch. One says to the other “something smells fishy around here”.

What is your favourite Book? Lord of the Rings.

What is your favourite TV show? At the moment, “24”, of all time probably “When The Boat Comes In”.

Do you play any other good online games? I used to play Age of Empires over a local LAN and really enjoyed it. Multiplayer adds a lot to a game when you’re used to playing a computer.

Christina Aguilera or Britney Spears in nothing but a Spurs home shirt, you can only have one, who would it be? If I can ignore the question, someone older like Meg Ryan.

Best movie of the year? Rarely get a chance to go out much these days.

Best movie of all time? Local Hero.

What was the last album you bought? Good, bad, indifferent? Can’t remember, it’s been a while! I don’t have much music recorded after 1985.

Favourite band of all time? Depending on my mood, either Hawkwind, Horslips or Tomita.

Favourite album of all time? “The Book of Invasions” by Horslips.
